Shellcamp Pond, Gilmanton NH Fishing Report

Shellcamp Pond NH

With the Turkey hunting up North still being slow, Dad and I decided to take the canoe out to an old favorite location of ours. Shellcamp Pond is largely the place where I learned how to fish, and the place where I learned what a Chain Pickerel was. Speaking of Pickerel, Sawyer Lake is one of the few lakes in NH that has none. Dad and I missed tangling with our favorite underrated game fish, so we headed to Shellcamp. We were not disappointed. We fought with sizable Pickerel all day and even a few Bass. I caught what is so far my biggest Pickerel in recent memory, a two pounder. Dad out fished me this time around, catching several pickerel and a bass.

Pickerel Party! Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 2
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Chain Pickerel
  • Fish Length (Avg): 19.25 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 20 inches
  • Fish Weight (Avg): 1 lbs. 12 oz.
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: Though I fought with about five or six Pickerel throughout the day, their teeth kept cutting through my light line. I did manage to land two of them though, the one pictured here being 20 inches and 2 pounds, my biggest in recent memory! Though I would normally use some kind of a hard lure for Pickerel, I was relying on my soft plastic rigs to slink through the weeds. Once again, all fish were caught on “Red Shad” Power Worms.
  • Location Details: We stuck mostly to this one area with intermittent lily pads not too far off the northern shore. Schools of Perch and Shiners kept running by, turning into surface feeding frenzies of Pickerel and Bass!

Complimentary Bass Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 1
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Largemouth Bass
  • Fish Length (Avg): 15 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 15 inches
  • Fish Weight (Avg): 1 lbs. 12 oz.
  • Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 12 oz.
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: This is the one Bass I caught during the day, somewhere around a pounds and a half. Red Shad Power Worms once again did the job here, with the Texas Rigs being able to slice through the weeds quite nicely.
  • Location Details: This Bass was caught near the area where we were catching most of the Pickerel. The weeds were spread out enough so that throwing a lure was possible.
