Lake Girardeau Description

Lake Girardeau Conservation Area Driving Directions 7 miles west of Jackson on Highway 34, go 6 miles south on Route U. Watch for signs. This area is primarily old fields and forest. Facilities/features: boat ramp, picnic areas, fishing dock, Lake Girardeau (162 acres). Lake Girardeau Conservation Area is near Crump in Cape Girardeau County, 14 miles southwest of Jackson on State Highway U and RA. The Conservation Department acquired this 351-acre area in 1962 and constructed a 162-acre lake here in 1964. The lake features two disabled-accessible fishing piers and a concrete boat ramp and offers good fishing for bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie. Primitive camping available in Lake Girardeau Camping Area. BBQ grills, picnic tables, gravel parking pads. No electricity or water hook ups. Outboard motors in excess of 10 horsepower must be run at a no-wake speed. No designated trails. One fishing/walking path which follows most of the shoreline between the dam and the U - Hwy parking lot. Open for public use from 4:00 a.m. To 10:00 p.m.; hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, dog training, launching and landing boats allowed 24 hours a day on areas where these activities are permitted.
