First Ice Fish!

Yesterday the Old Man and I headed up to Shellcamp Pond in Gilmanton NH to do a little ice fishing. I had gone out to Sawyer Lake awhile back, but I got skunked. This time we did a little better, having our tip ups trip on several occasions. We only got one of the fish through the Ice however, a smallish Chain Pickerel. It is the first fish of the year for me and the first fish I have ever caught on a tip-up device!

First Ever Tip-Up Fish! Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 1
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Chain Pickerel
  • Fish Length (Avg): 14 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 14 inches
  • Bait Type: Minnow Check Prices
  • Bait Details: This is the first fish I have ever caught using a tip-up device. My other ice fishing catches were done using my normal bass road sitting by a single hole in the ice. I much prefer to do things this way! It was just a small Chain Pickerel however. For bait we were using some live shiners we bought at a local shop. This is also the first time I have ever used those!
  • Location Details: We were aiming for the deeper part of the lake which is to the west of the small island in the middle of the lake.
